During our second day in the great city of Antalya, we used it as the base from which to explore two of Turkey's most important archaeological sites, Aspendos and Perge. In this short post, our Adventures Abroad, Western Turkey Tour will visit the best-preserved theatre in the ancient world. We'll also get a look at a portion of a Roman aqueduct that has a unique inverted siphon which I'll do my best to explain to you. Our Western Turkey Tour odyssey with Adventures Abroad continues as we depart the site of ancient Phaselis and head for the city of Antalya where we will spend a few days exploring both the city and the surrounding area. It is the largest Turkish city on the Mediterranean coast (Izmir is on the Aegean Sea) with a population of around one million and is actually the fastest growing city in the country. There's a good reason for this as Antalya has a beautiful location on the coast with the fabled Taurus Mountains in the background. It is home to one of the largest and best preserved historic districts in the country, lined with Ottoman houses. Other parts of Antalya feature leafy boulevards and seaside promenades. It also has one of the best archaeological museums in a country famous for them. Please join our small group as we explore this most interesting city.

This is my third post from a trip Alison and I took with Adventures Abroad to French Polynesia. In this post, we continue our journey through our Western Turkey Tour with Adventures Abroad tour leader Yasemin Reis as we enter the Province of Antalya. It is as rich in archaeological sites as any area in Turkey as we will find out over the next few days. Our first stop in the province was a visit to ancient Myra where we marvelled at the Lycian rock cut tombs and gazed upon the amazing frescoes in the Basilica of St. Nicholas. For the past two days, our Western Turkey Tour with Adventures Abroad has been stationed in the small Mediterranean town of Kas. Yesterday we enjoyed an outing by boat on the Turquoise Coast which will surely be one of the highlights of the entire trip, but it's time to move on. Today we have several interesting stops before reaching the city of Antalya starting with Myra which quite plausibly was the home of the original St. Nicholas. Who knew that Santa Claus came from warmer climes than the North Pole? Please join us as we see more Lycian rock cut tombs before meeting St. Nicholas.

This is my second post from a recent trip Alison and I took with Adventures Abroad to French Polynesia. The first post was an overview of the entire trip and gave the reasons why I thought it was pretty well unique in terms of what tour operators are offering in this area of the world. In this post I'm going to get down to specifics, starting with the first place on the itinerary, the wonderful Te Moana Tahiti Resort just outside of Papeete.
