Now it was time to leave this storied wonderland and head for the capital city of Turkey, Ankara where we will visit the Ataturk Mausoleum and the Museum of Anatolian Civilizations. Before getting there we will first stop at the Tuz Gulu salt flats, sometimes home to thousands of flamingoes. Please join us on one of the final days of this fascinating and rewarding tour.

Old Town Geneva - A Walk Through History

Published on 1 September 2022

In his latest blog post, Dale Dunlop, The Maritime Explorer, makes his way to Old Town Geneva - A Walk Through History, and takes in the sights and flavours the city has to offer. If you are interested in what Adventures Abroad has to offer, please check out our Small Group Tours to Switzerland.

My first post from Switzerland was a compendium of reasons for signing onto Adventures Abroad, Hiking Switzerland Tour. However, since Alison and I had never spent any time in this country other than at airports, we decided to get there a few days before and include the cities of Geneva and Basel on our itinerary. We arrived on an overnight flight from Montreal and took the airport train into the Cornavin station from where it was only a short walk to our lodgings. In this post, I'll recommend a good hotel in Geneva and then we'll take a walking tour of Old Town Geneva followed by a meal at one of the country's most famous restaurants. I hope you'll join us.

Ballooning in Cappadocia

In his latest blog post, Dale Dunlop, The Maritime Explorer, has a unique view of Cappadocia. Join him as he sets off Ballooning in Cappadocia. If you are interested in what Adventures Abroad has to offer, please check out our Small Group Tours.

This is my fourth and final post from Cappadocia on this Adventures Abroad, Western Turkey Tour. In the last one, we ventured deep underneath the bowels of Cappadocia to visit the underground city of Derinkuyu. In this one we'll do the very opposite, taking to the blue skies above Cappadocia in a hot air balloon. I was going to title this post Ballooning in Cappadocia, the Good, the Bad and the Ugly, but that title would have been too long for SEO purposes. Instead, I'm going to describe why taking that lifelong bucket list thing to do in Cappadocia is not all that it is cracked up to be, yet is still more than worthwhile. Please join Alison and me and a few other intrepid Adventures Abroad mates as we ascend over a mile above the wild Turkish landscape of Cappadocia.

In the last post on this Adventures Abroad French Polynesia Tour, we circled the beautiful island of Moorea on our last day on dry land before boarding the Aranui 5 for our twelve-day passage to the Marquesas Islands with stops at the Tuamotu Archipelago on the way out and back. In this post, I'll describe what it was like travelling on this unique ship from the viewpoint of someone who is an avowed anti-cruiser. Please join Alison and me and the rest of the AA group as I explain why this is the one cruise that every intrepid world traveller needs to take at least once in a lifetime.

In his latest blog post, Dale Dunlop, The Maritime Explorer, actually goes deeper into Cappadocia, join him as he wanders down and around Derinkuyu Underground City. If you are interested in what Adventures Abroad has to offer, please check out our Small Group Tours.

In the last post, our Adventures Abroad, Western Turkey Tour visited Goreme Open Air Museum. This was a bit of a misnomer because most of what we saw was actually inside the churches that were carved out of the soft volcanic rock of Cappadocia. In this post, we will do the opposite of anything related to the open air as we descend deep into the bowels of the earth to visit the underground city of Derinkuyu. If you are not claustrophobic, please join us in exploring this most unusual Byzantine site.
