In his latest blog post, Dale Dunlop, The Maritime Explorer, shares one of his best experiences in the great outdoors, hiking The Matterhorn - A Perfect Day in the Alps. Moritz. If you are interested in what Adventures Abroad has to offer, please check out our Small Group Tours to Switzerland.
This is a post I have been eager to write since experiencing one of the best days of hiking in my life last June in the Swiss Alps with the Matterhorn looming in the background on every step. Alison and I are well into our Swiss hiking tour with Adventures Abroad led by our good friend Victor Romagnoli. This is one of the company's Top 10 most popular tours and so far it has lived up to that billing. Our first major hike was in the Engadin Valley looking down at the resort town of St. Moritz. Not only was it beautiful, but we were very pleasantly surprised at the great number and variety of wildflowers that we came across. Seeing an ibex in the wild was an added bonus. After that we took one of the most legendary train trips on the planet, the Glacier Express from St. Moritz to Zermatt where we got our first look at the Matterhorn, a sight one never forgets. This morning the sky is deep blue with no signs of the mist we had on the Engadin hike and the temperature is expected to soar well into the 70s °F (21+ °C). We simply could not ask for better conditions to hike the Matterhorn area.
Bora Bora Can’t Be Beat
In his latest blog post, Dale Dunlop, The Maritime Explorer, is captivated by the flavours and allure of his final stop of the French Polynesia Tour and explains why Bora Bora Can’t Be Beat. If you are interested in what Adventures Abroad has to offer, please check out our Small Group Tours to French Polynesia.
Okay, I know the title of this post sounds like the last line in a high school cheerleader's chant, but the fact is Bora Bora can't be beat, at least in my book. Equalled maybe, but in all my travels I found no place I enjoyed more than Bora Bora. It was absolutely the right place to end our Adventures Abroad French Polynesia Tour. Here's the first of two posts explaining why Alison and I absolutely loved this island.

In my last post from this trip to Switzerland with Adventures Abroad, our group started our hiking portion of the itinerary with a bracing ramble in the Engadin Valley high above St. Moritz. Now it is time to enjoy one of the many exciting train trips that were one of the main attractions for signing on to this tour. None is more famous than the Glacier Express that runs between St. Moritz and Zermatt and in this post I'll do my best to explain why it is a trip that every train enthusiast should do once in a lifetime.

In the last post from this Adventures Abroad tour of French Polynesia, we made our final stop in the Marquesas Islands at the stunning Hanavave Bay (aka Bay of Virgins) on Fatu Hiva. The Aranui 5 then set sail for our final destination on this cruise before returning to Tahiti. After more than 24 hours at sea, we are now approaching Rangiroa, the second largest atoll on earth and a centre of the black pearl industry in French Polynesia. Please join us as we visit a pearl farm, relax on the beach and enjoy a great meal on shore.

In the last post from this Adventures Abroad walking and hiking tour of Switzerland, we took the train to St. Moritz and enjoyed a walk around this fabled resort town. We later paid a visit to the famous Heidi Hut and walked back down into St. Moritz from it. In this post, we'll undertake our first serious hike as we walk from the top of the Muottas Muragl funicular to the Alp Langard restaurant for lunch and then take a chairlift down to Pontresina. Please join us for some alpine fun in the Engadin Valley.
Fatu Hiva - Last Stop in the Marquesas
In his latest blog post, Dale Dunlop, The Maritime Explorer, will stop into Fatu Hiva - Last Stop in the Marquesas - and will visit two fascinating locations - Omoa and Hanavave. If you are interested in what Adventures Abroad has to offer, please check out our Small Group Tours.
In the last post from this Adventures Abroad tour of French Polynesia, we visited the sacred marae of I'lpona on the island of Hiva Oa. In this post, we will head for our final destination in the Marquesas, Fatu Hiva where we will have two stops, first at Omoa and then at Hanavave. Those so inclined can attempt the ten mile (16 km) trail that connects the two villages. Please join us as Alison and I contemplate whether or not to undertake this rather daunting trek.
