- Is Ecuador safe?Ecuador is considered one of the safer South American countries, although there have been rising crime levels in recent years. Tourists are advised to be wary of pickpockets and thieves, especially in crowded places and on public transport. When travelling at night, it’s also recommended to grab a taxi rather than wandering the streets. Unfortunately, kidnappings in taxis do happen so to mitigate the risk, make sure you call a registered taxi through your hotel rather than hailing one in the street.

On the mainland, the warmest and driest months are from June to September, while the coolest and wettest months are between January and May.
